This sturdy, well built first basemen is still known as a big guy in the Oakland organization. Standing at just 6 feet, he weighs 215 and comes across as a bigger person than he is. While those numbers don’t give people the idea that he has the ideal size to be a first baseman, he was compared to Kevin Millar but shorter and stockier. As part of the Andrew Bailey-Josh Reddick trade, he was aquired from the Red Sox in December of 2011. Head had a career year in his minor league career batting .382 with 18 homers and 56 RBIs in just 69 games. He was chosen late in the draft for compared to his high school senor stats which were off the chart. He hit .528 with 14 homers, 48 RBIs and a 1.260 slugging percentage in his senor year alone and was drafted the following year. Head had already signed to play with Georgia for college ball but decided he wanted to play for the Red Sox instead. Ben Crockett, compared Head to Brandon Jacobs as he was a stud in high school but really showed that he was ready for pro ball when they started to play in the minor leagues. This is definitely a prospect who you may see with the A’s when head reaches his mid 20s and matures at the plate a little more. (credit: bigbaseballboy)
